Microsoft Business voice case study

IDM Properties is a London based residential and commercial property development company. It manages all aspects of the development life cycle from investment and acquisition, to design, build, sales and maintenance.

IDM Properties currently employs around 30 members of staff. As an organisation, they had been successfully using Microsoft Teams since March 2020. The extension of Teams to Microsoft Office provided an ideal collaboration tool for IDM, not only internally, but with the many different suppliers, external contractors and investors they work with across multiple projects.

Along with the rest of the country, IDM moved to remote working in 2020 – and continued to use Teams to collaborate; the transition was effortless and with minimal disruption to users. Staff continued communicating via the chat and video conferencing tools and collaborating as they ordinarily would have. Alongside Microsoft Teams, IDM had a traditional on-premise Avaya IP Office phone system in place to provide calls to the PSTN.

In October 2020, IDM’s existing phone system crashed and went offline, leaving the staff frustrated and unable to make or receive calls. The suspected cause was a faulty power supply, although upon further on-site investigation by an engineer, it was evident that it was a much bigger problem and several of the main CPU cards were scorched and badly damaged. The proposed resolution came with unacceptable downtime and further costs for replacement hardware that was no longer under warranty, not to mention the risk of investing in outdated technology.

IDM Properties IT support company IP6net reached out to Microsoft Business Voice specialist, M365Voice to understand the Microsoft offering in more detail, along with the costs and steps to migrate. IDM were encouraged by the reliability of using a Microsoft product to deliver their phone system, especially one that had been specifically designed with Microsoft users in mind. It had all the features they needed, with the added benefit of slotting straight into the existing Teams stack they were already using.

Within two days of agreeing to Microsoft Business Voice, IP6net and M365Voice had taken the steps to seamlessly migrate IDM Properties and configured the setup to suit their requirements. They also decided to use the mobile device app, existing headsets and Bluetooth devices to connect to the Teams app, meaning no additional hardware spend was needed to get started.

Jonathan Curtis, Managing Partner – “We hadn’t heard much about Microsoft Business Voice before. I was impressed with how intuitive it was, the experience is very slick and it really compliments our current communications via Teams.  In the end it was an easy decision rather than replace our traditional phone system and we managed to save money too”
